A major technology company said its voice assistant now supports seven Indian languages for both voice commands and text queries, adding Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada and Punjabi to its existing lineup.

The company said accuracy for regional languages had trailed English by a wide margin, and that the update draws on a larger training set collected through opt-in voice samples over the past year.

The rollout begins this week and will reach all supported devices by the end of the month, the company said.
