Senior leaders of the ruling alliance met for a third straight day to finalise seat-sharing before the local body elections, with regional partners pushing for a larger share of urban constituencies where they have organisational strength.

Negotiators said the broad framework was agreed on Sunday night, leaving only two contested seats in the city's northern belt still unresolved. A joint announcement is expected once those are settled.

Analysts say the outcome will be read as a signal ahead of the state election next year, when the same alliance is expected to contest together.
